How do you capture a lightning strike on a long-term time-lapse camera?

On a routine maintenance check following a powerful electrical storm that swept through South East Queensland, we were very surprised to find this image of a lightning striking. To help put this into perspective, our camera was set to take a photo every 4 minutes and the shutter speed at the time was 1/100th of a second, so the likely hood that we captured a perfect lightning strike travelling at 300,000 kph is a little mind-boggling.
